Rev. Dr. Deborah Jungmi Kang  (She/Her), Lead Pastor

Pastor Deborah has served Open Door UMC since July 1, 2023. She is an ordained elder in full connection with the Northern Illinois Conference. She holds a Doctorate of Ministry in Preaching, a Master of Theological Studies, and a Master of Divinity from The Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in the U.S. Additionally, she earned a Master of Theology from Yonsei University Graduate School in South Korea and a Bachelor of Theology from Hyupsung University in South Korea.
Pastor Deborah’s passion lies in various ministries, such as preaching and teaching, worship and music, pastoral care and counseling, radical hospitality, as well as mercy and justice for the community. She dedicates her efforts to enriching the lives of others through these meaningful avenues. Currently, she is pursuing her Ph.D. in Liturgical Studies at the Graduate Theological Union, further deepening her expertise in this field.

Her husband, Chris Chiyong Oh has served as a senior pastor in the Wisconsin Conference of the UMC at Waupaca Regional Ministry. Grounded by his music background, majoring in voice, conducting, and church music, he has been actively involved in diverse music ministries and community programs. Together, they have a wonderful daughter named Hera Minju Oh, who is a student at the University of California, Irvine. Hera is majoring in Political Science and Criminology along with advocating for peace and justice movements. She will soon be transferring to Emory University to continue her studies in the coming years. Pastor Deborah and her family have sweet dogs like their names, Honey, Sugar, and Boba. They all enjoy the simple pleasures of eating delicious food and taking leisurely walks, just like Pastor Deborah and her family do. They deeply appreciate God’s guidance and strength as they follow God’s calling to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Terry Lezama-Jensen (He/Him), Music Director

Terry Lezama-Jensen began his Pastoral Music Ministry in 1971 as Chapel Choir Director at his alma mater, Berry College in Mt. Berry, GA.  Since then he has found himself in Methodist, United Church of Christ, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Disciples of Christ, Interdenominational, and Catholic communities where he has been called on to sing, play the organ and piano, direct, preach, and teach.

Terry is a native of the Bay Area, born and raised in Petaluma. In 1979 he moved down to San Francisco and spent three decades living, working and ministering there.  In 2009 he moved across the bay to take his chances with the Hayward Fault. Terry and his Nicaraguan husband Mauricio live in Vallejo, with their three dogs and one cat. When not working at his real job as a Business Systems Analyst in San Francisco, or doing music for us, Terry enjoys barbecuing and lazing around the pool, exploring local street fairs, checking out historic sites, dining at restaurants (both the interesting and the mundane), watching telenovelas to improve his rudimentary Spanish, and taking in first-run movies at the local multiplex.
